Thu, 02 Feb 2017 13:14:20
The last week in January and first in February has continued the momentum of the last several weeks with a number of impressive music videos hitting screens around the world. Ed Sheeran dropped his second music video in as many weeks, this one for "Shape of You", which finds the singer-songwriter in fighting form. Sampha's stunning debut album, Process, is out today, but earlier in the week we finally got to see the visuals for "(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano".
Father John Misty has been cutting straight to the heart of America and the nation's surrounding political and identity issues on the tracks we've heard from his upcoming album, Pure Comedy. This week he debuted the video for "Two Wildly Different Perspectives", which once again takes a direct look into the issues dividing Americans. And that was only the beginning for a week filled with fascinating new eye candy.
Here are our favorites:
Sampha — "(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano"
There is nothing complex about the video for Sampha's "(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano", but if you don't come out on the other side with at least a little bit of dew in the corner of your eye, we have to wonder what's really going on inside.
Father John Misty — "Two Wildly Different Perspectives"
Father John Misty takes the joy of children playing with toy guns and turns into a commentary on the complicated message our society sends its citizens in the video for "Two Wildly Different Perspectives". Seeing the artillery move from plastic to metal, but never seeming too different from the video games children, teens, and adults play might make you reconsider your view on the other side's perspective.
Ryan Adams — "Do You Still Love Me"
Ryan Adams is in true rock 'n' roll form in the video for "Do You Still Love Me". Whether in front of 1000s of fans or alone in a recording studio, Adams looks at home with a mic at his lips. It's a simple video, but one that reminds you why Ryan Adams is always at the cutting edge of the music scene.
Ed Sheeran — Shape of You
Ed Sheeran's newest music video finds the English singer-songwriter getting physical with a lady who can more than hold her own in the ring. Sheeran takes a couple shots here and there as the two flirt before she suddenly takes off, encouraging him to train even harder in his attempt to find her. It all comes to a tragic, yet hilarious end as the red-headed musician ends up in a backroom fight with a sumo wrestler. Don't worry, his lady returns, but will it be enough to save him?
AFI — Aurelia
Eyes, lips, noses, the video for AFI's "Aurelia" takes a look at the skin that makes up the faces of the band. In between the cracks, wrinkles, and imperfections that make up each member, viewers can see the humanity in a band that has topped various charts for years.
