Ed Sheeran took to his Twitter account on New Year's Day to share he would be releasing new music "Friday". Last month, Sheeran returned to social media after a year's absence.
Previously, in December of 2015, Sheeran announced that he would be taking some time away from social media, removing himself from the public eye, saying, "Hello all. I'm taking a break from my phone, emails and all social media for a while, I've had such an amazing ride over the last 5 years but I find myself seeing the world through a screen and not my eyes so I'm taking this opportunity of me not having to be anywhere or do anything to travel the world and see everything I missed. To my family and friends, if you love me you will understand me buggering off for a bit, to my fans, the 3rd album us on its way and is the best thing I have made thus far. See you all next autumn, and thank you for being amazing."
It now seems as if a new album might be just around the corner, and Sheeran-collaborator Amy Wadge told BBC Newsbeat, "His album is done." The English singer-songwriter released his last album x in 2014, which was the follow up to his 2010 debut +. No title or release date has been announced at this time, but nonetheless the release of new material should get fans excited and the press chomping at the bit.
