EL VY, Rihanna, Nao Shine In Top Music Videos Of The Week - July 30 - August 5
Fri, 05 Aug 2016 13:49:16
It was a strong week in the world of music videos. Skrillex and Rick Ross teamed up for "Purple Lamborghini", which is featured in the new Suicide Squad movie. Newly mustachioed gentlemen French Montana and Drake threw a mansion party in "No Shopping". Katy Perry released the non-Olympic-promo version of the video for "Rise."
Elsewhere, it seemed as if Charles Bradley felt it was "Good to be Back Home". The cowboy from Psychic Ills' "Baby" video returned for "Another Change", and this time he spent his day at the rodeo. Broncho released the somewhat haunting video for "Speed Demon". Kylo returned us to the days of warped cable in her video for "Fatal". And that was only the beginning for a week filled with stunning music videos.
Here are our favorites:
Mac Miller - "Dang" [ft. Anderson Paak] - Directed by Rex Arrow
The audio for the Mac Miller-Anderson Paak collaboration "Dang" was just dropped last week, and we loved it. The video, with it's turquoise touches, is just as stunning. The floral wallpaper reflected later by the circular flower bed is alone enough reason to watch.
EL VY - "Sleepin' Light" - Directed by Tom Berninger
You might recognize the style of "Sleepin' Light" from the last EL VY video, "It's A Game", directed by Tom Berninger. The drawings from that first video find a new home against the juxtaposition of summer coastal life and bitter winter snow. It's always a pleasure when these two talented brothers work together.
Rihanna - "Goodnight Gotham" - Directed by Philip Andelman and The Uprising Creative
It may be only a minute long, but the epic fan meet-and-greet video shows the power of Rihanna and the admiration of her fans. And the streets of Paris are never too bad to look at.
Nao - "Girlfriend" - Directed by Yoni Lappin
The video for Nao's "Girlfriend" is simple. Long shots of faces sit next to floating camera movements. It's beautiful, effective, and a perfect translation of the song.
Jessy Lanza - "Oh No" - Directed by Winson H. Case
Jessy Lanza released her sophomore LP Oh No back in May to widespread critical acclaim. This week she unveiled the video for the album's title track featuring the singer-songwriter-producer riding a bicycle with glowing lights. It's as lovely as it sounds.
