Sometimes, a simple sound can be more terrifying than anything.
Whether it's via a creak in the floor boards, a window or door opening unexpectedly or a Slayer song, Satan can slip in and scare the living daylights out of an unsuspecting listener. Given that universal truth, "The Last Exorcism" is often at its scariest when the atmosphere and the tense cracking noises take over. That's not the only thing that's bloody brilliant about the film because there's certainly a lot but for our purposes the sonic sensibility is rather superb.
The film's star Patrick Fabian goes so far as to compare the movie to Metallica's "One," while co-star Ashley Bell extols composer Nathan Barr for his incredible score. Eli Roth had a different take altogether…
