EMI Reveals New Download Service

EMI has announced plans for their very own download service, an effort to bypass middlemen in the burgeoning digital market. A source close to the company told Adweek "this is not an effort to compete with iTunes or Amazon," however.
EMI.com will likely launch the service—a mix of paid/free content that may or may not include non-EMI artists—before the end of the year. According to a Financial Times report yesterday, EMI's download division would be treated as a "consumer lab" akin to Pandora.com and lastfm.com.
