Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie" video is not based on his tumultuous and turbulent relationship with his ex-wife Kim Mathers! Nor is it based on Rihanna's situation with her ex, Chris Brown. Those are logical assumptions, given the abuse theme that runs through the video and the person issues both Em and RiRi have dealt with in a very public forum. But according to director Joseph Kahn, the fiery track is solely based on two fictional characters and does not take inspiration from real life events, reports MTV. In fact, Kahn said he had to tread lightly, given the sensitivity of the subject matter.
"The subject matter is some of the most complex stuff I've ever handled ...obviously there are parallels, in terms of the song, with Eminem's personal life and Rihanna's personal life," he said. "And I had actually, like last year, been working with Chris Brown ... so I'm in the middle of all this stuff, and I have to be very, very careful with how I tread. But ultimately, if you really look at the video, it's not about anybody in particular. ... It's a story specific to two characters I created."
Did you think that the video invoked images of Em's and RiRi's past abusive relationships?
