She is one of pop music's secret weapon and shines on her own.
Bonnie McKee's name may not be instantly familiar to you. But she is a pop music secret weapon, having co-penned hits with and for Katy Perry and Britney Spears. Hits that you know like the back of your hand, such as Perry's "ROAR." Miss McKee is a songwriter and a singer and she knows how to craft a pop song that will carve out real estate in your brain permanently. But what about her own music? Well, that's pretty fine, too.
McKee dropped her Bombastic EP after exiting her former major label digs over that ol' standby excuse known as "creative differences." Thankfully, McKee stayed true to herself and decided to do what was best for her and which accurately channeled her creative juices. She continues to craft both cute and sexy pop with Bombastic.
The EP, which is four tracks in length, making it efficient and digestible, opens with "I Want It All," a delicious electro pop anthem backed by a crackling guitar riff. McKee's got a saccharine voice that'll give you more than a few cavities, but it's so sweet going down.
The title track, on which Charlie Puth boasts a writing credit, is synthy and loaded with studio-treated vocal harmonies. It's also packed with all the requisite blips and beeps, but dayum if this isn't one of the catchiest and crunchiest tracks to hit our speakers in 2015. There's a groove that just won't quit and it begs for you to shake your hips to it.
McKee's ultra sassy vocals are delivered in a breathy, Brit Brit-style. But overall, the song has a clappy, cheerleader-y vibe that sounds like it's McKee's 2015 update of Toni Basil's "Mickey."
