EP of the Week: Jordan Bratton "YOUTH" -

New York R&B wunderkind steps up to the plate with fantastic major label debut EP.

    Jordan Bratton Youth EP

Jordan Bratton takes EP of the Week with his phenomenal six-track debut YOUTH, out now via Rebirth Entertainment/1009 Records/RCA Records. You might've heard his stunning mixtape, The Grey Area or even caught him opening up for R&B force of nature Jazmine Sullivan during this year's "The Reality Show Tour." However, the Long Island native makes a first statement with a bang via YOUTH. the title itself could describe his approach as the music really does evoke a spirit of freedom, daring, and wistfulness associated with the formative years. At the same time, he possesses the songwriting acumen of a seasoned pro, instantly placing him in league with R&B's best and brightest here.

What stands out the most is that Jordan really does possess his own sound. The harmonies at the beginning of "Prisoner" would feel right at home in the fifties, but then Chance The Rapper pops up delivering a stunning guest spot and ushering the track firmly beyond 2015. At the same time, Jordan's voice takes the spotlight, echoing immensely and infectiously in tandem with a delicate bass line and strong beat. At the same time, "Bound" kicks into high gear with a heavenly piano beat before dropping into dense futuristic production augmenting the singer's potent delivery.
