EP of the Week: Rich White Ladies – "Rich White Ladies" EP
Wed, 01 Apr 2015 21:20:49
Straight up, Rich White Ladies made the dopest and flyest EP you will hear all year with their eponymous Rich White Ladies EP. It’s available now, and it truly is a “lipstick stick up!” The pair of Scotty Rebel and Tokyo Diiva embody all of the larger-than-life trappings of arena rock a la David Bowie, unbridled hip-hop grit with furious skills that’d make Nicki Minaj proud, high fashion boundlessness, and a pop palatability of their own. They go from kidnapping your favorite celebrities on “Ransom” to rocking a “White Powder Perm” so poppin’ Marie Antoinette would be jealous—with an undeniable refrain and downright hilarious video.
The “1%” is a sly and slick declaration of their status at the top of pop—where they’re claiming a stake. Then, “Wimbledon” actually makes tennis badass announcing, “You are so bull-bulls**t. We are so Wimbledon.” If you’re Wimbledon, you’re better than fetch, even. If you don’t know what fetch is, well, this might be your only hope…
At the same time, they can dial it back and emanate some real emotion that’s undeniably uplifting during “No Bad Vibez.” The reggae-driven, sunsoaked anthem is nothing but good feelings and huge melodies, showcasing this duo’s expansive talent.
Rich White Ladies have arrived, and they’re about to take over. Get down with them now, because they’re going to have all the rich girls screaming on the floor of the Staples Center soon.
