Santa Barbara DJ and Producer gets all fantastical with fantastic and snowy 'The Throes Of Winter' EP!

Seven Lions throes of winter ep

Seven Lions scores EP of the Week with The Throes Of Winter EP [Casablanca Records]—the follow-up to 2014's Worlds Apart. Who said electronic dance music can't be thinking man's music? The Santa Barbara DJ and producer expands the boundaries of the genre well past the dance floor and into a fantastical realm that's as vivid as George R.R. Martin or J.R.R. Tolkien tale. It doesn't always have to be about dancing under strobe lights or at pool parties. This sort of music can be sweepingly cinematic too, and The Throes of Winter solidifies that fact. It's quite refreshing to see an artist in this realm get so visual and vibrant, shaking the walls and the boundaries and actually yielding something new.

At the same time, it's also completely propulsive. After the "Intro (The Throes Of Winter)," the track launches into the shimmering "The End [feat. Haliene]. The entrancing vocal entwines with dense and dynamic production that deepens just before a final sonic exhale. Meanwhile, "Lose Myself" gets dreamy with a guest spot from Lynn Gunn, edging between dubstep and trance and never wavering in terms of bombast and energy.
