Erykah Badu is scoring an animated TV show for Comedy Central entitled "Legends of Chamberlain Heights," which is set to air this fall. Deadline says about the series, "an animated comedy from veteran Simpsons artist Brad Ableson, retired UCLA Bruin basketball players, sports producers Quinn Hawking (ESPN) and Josiah Johnson (NFL Network), writer Michael Starrbury (The Inevitable Defeat Of Mister And Pete) and Bento Box Entertainment."
The animated series "is described as an urban animated series mixing raucous comedy and social commentary. It centers on three high school freshmen: Jamal, Grover, and Milk, with Hawking and Johnson providing inspiration for the characters. (Hawking voices Jamal and Johnson voices Grover and Milk, with the two bringing their experience as former UCLA basketball benchwarmers to the project.) The three friends tackle life with some wins and some losses, but failure doesn't faze them since they're legends…even if it's just in their own minds," writes Deadline.
According to a profile done with The New Yorker, Badu is also currently working with D.R.A.M., one of her "favorite young rappers." Badu stopped by D.R.A.M.'s place a few weeks back to add her part to a song he had sent her, which might end up on D.R.A.M.'s next mixtape. Last year, Badu dropped the But You Caint Use My Phone mixtape. There has been no word on whether she plans on releasing a new album any time soon.
