Esther Gordy Edwards, who founded the Motown Museum to preserve the legacy of the record label her brother Berry Gordy founded, has died at age 91. Edwards died of natural causes.
Berry Gordy released a statement, praising his sister as not only a respected Motown executive but also as a civil rights leader. He called his Howard University-educated sister "the most educated in our family and was the go-to person for wisdom in business."
Edwards curated the museum, which is one of Michigan's top tourist attractions. The museum's "mission is to preserve the legacy of Motown Record Corporation and to educate and motivate people, especially youth, through exhibitions and programs that promote the values of vision, creativity and entrepreneurship." No wonder it attracts visitors!
R.I.P., Esther Gordy Edwards.
