Come to her window to see the new golden statuette sitting on her shelf. Melissa Etheridge took home an Oscar for Best Original Song at last night's Academy Awards. Her song "I Need To Wake Up" was featured in the Al Gore climate change film An Inconvenient Truth (which also won Best Documentary), and won the award despite the category domination by Dreamgirls, which had three songs nominated.
Jennifer Hudson took home the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her sensational acting debut in Dreamgirls. Not bad for an American Idol also-ran, right? Her co-star Eddie Murphy lost out to Alan Arkin in the Best Supporting Actor category.
Veteran composer Ennio Morricone accepted the Honorary Academy Award from Clint Eastwood for all his work throughout the years scoring films like The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly and The Untouchables, while relative newcomer Gustavo Santaolalla won his second consecutive Oscar for Best Original Score, for his work on Babel (he also won last year for Brokeback Mountain).
