It’s hard out here for Koopsta Knicac. While his former partners in Three 6 Mafia shook up the Oscars with their win for best song (Hustle & Flow’s now-ubiquitous “It’s Hard Out Here for a Pimp”), Robert Cooper, a.k.a. Koopsta Knicca, spent red carpet day in his prison blues.
The 30-year-old Cooper was brought up on charges of aggravated assault and aggravated robbery, being accused of breaking into a house in Memphis and taking over $7,000 from three people at gunpoint. He also allegedly snatched a diamond ring, a leather jacket, and a cell phone.
Cooper was an early member of Three 6 Mafia, who had worked their way up through their local hip-hop scene before their fortuitous alignment with Hustle & Flow, which trained its pimp-sympathizin’ eyes squarely on Memphis. Problems with the law are nothing new for Cooper. Before his exit from the group in 2000, he was arrested on charges of domestic violence assault and aggravated burglary. The accuser claimed that he had broken into her bathroom and, when confronted, punched her in the face.
Prior to 2000, Cooper had convictions for reckless driving, assault and, you guessed it, burglary. He was arrested three times last year, and was also recently charged with writing a bad check -- to a friend.
