Just last week, many music fans were enjoying the kind of fever experienced when a favorite artist teases new material. The belief was that the long-rumored Jay Z album was about to drop. The evidence was compelling; a series of Tidal adverts appeared around New York City and across the web. 4:44 was the name of mysterious project that was being teased, and fans were convinced that their prayers for a new Hov project were being answered. However, heartbreak soon followed as the trailer for 4:44 showed the project to be a film starring Mahershala Ali and Danny Glover — no bad thing, but not the thing that the music world had assumed.
Over the weekend, in the wake of the earlier disappointment, more rumors began to swirl when an image of Jay Z and Damian Marley hanging out in Jamaica began to circulate on the internet. The idea of a new album from Jay suddenly caught fire once again.
Then — speaking from his tour in Europe during an interview with ARTISTdirect, Damian Marley confirmed that he had collaborated with Jay, and that new music was on the way.
"Well — we've been working on a few things together on behalf of the Tidal family, and more recently our management, my management, has partnered with Roc Nation — so we're running into each other a bit more, more and more as time goes by and we've been in the studios together here and there, working on some stuff."
"Recently Jay came down to Jamaica and wanted a tour of Kingston and my history in terms of my background in Jamaica. So we were there, and we did that together. We got to go round and see where the music came from, where the fire came from"
So, with Marley's confirmation of a collaboration that will feature on an upcoming Jay Z project, and with Swiss Beatz teasing Instagram post that shared a photo of him and Jay with the caption "They don't even know what's about to happen —————— Album ModeZone⚡️." it seems like it won't be long before the prayers and hopes will be answered.
