The Funeral Portrait is a five-piece pop-rock outfit hailing from Atlanta, Georgia. Consisting of vocalist Lee Jennings, guitarist/vocalist Juergie Landstrom, guitars AJ Pekarek, bassist Chris King, and drummer Stephen Danzey, the band blends elements of rock and roll, heavy metal, and theatre all under a blanket of pop sensibility as they paint their stories of love, loss, anger, and grief onto a canvas of skillfully crafted songs.
"For the Dearly Departed is a short concept album revolving around a single character who endures the five stages of grief: Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, and Acceptance," said the band. "The first song is the event that triggers the process, and the following songs represent each of the five stages. I'm not going to tell anyone how to listen to our music, but it helps to keep this concept in mind to understand the product as a whole. As far as new sounds or ideas to listen for, we enjoyed writing more 'call and response' vocal parts to utilize the dual vocalist dynamic. We also worked very hard to organize the momentum of each song and the EP as a whole so that the songs accurately represented the emotions that coincide with the five stages of grief."
With all that in mind, enjoy For the Dearly Departed and your Friday.
