ARTISTdirect.com has partnered with alt rock icons Garbage to premiere this exclusive "Blood for Poppies" Mini-Film in which the band details the creation of the new song "Blood for Poppies," which has all the quintessential elements of Garbage. You know, Shirley Manson's gorgeously beguiling vocals, hooks that embed into your skin and sultry melodies.
In this video, the band reveals that Shirley came up with the lyrics right away after reading an article about a troop in Afghanistan in The New York Times. She wanted to capture that feeling of being alone and isolated through the vehicle of song.
Sonically, the band incorporated a helicopter into the mix. Literally. There is the sound of propeller set to the beat. Brilliant and creative.
Watch and learn about "Blood for Poppies" on an intimate level.
The clip was directed by Julie Orser, and with the band, she created these short-films for each track on the album to give fans an idea of the band's inspiration for each song.
The song appears on Not Your Kind of People, Garbage's first album in seven years. Go here to grab it. It's easily one of Garbage's best works and is evidence of why they were one of the most important bands of the '90s.
