We know Monday mornings suck and the weekend is "Fading" into the rear view, but let's reverse that. Wake up your Monday by listening to the deeply personal and interesting "Fading," a new song from Tom Maxwell + The Minor Drag.
Maxwell is formerly of Squirrel Nut Zippers, in case you didn't know!
"'Fading' is about this thing that happened to my dad," Maxwell told us about the extremely personal song. "He had what they call 'Transient Global Amnesia' and checked out for a couple hours. [He] Couldn't remember a thing for a half-day or so; he kept asking my mom the same questions in the same order until his memory returned. They told him it will probably never happen again."
Maxwell continued, "That part in the bridge about his mom is true: my grandma suffered from strokes and kind of stopped being a person long before her body died. I also use the song to refer to my anxiety about walking away from fame: 'There's so many things I want to say / But not if I have to fade.' Like almost every other song on that record, everything except the vocals was a live take."
With that beautiful insight in mind, enjoy the song!
The album comes out August 26th and is available for pre-order now at www.tommaxwell.com!
