ARTISTdirect has teamed up with Jeremy Bass to premiere his video for "Gone," from Tenant, out October 7.
"'Gone' was shot in my apartment in the dead of night in the middle of the winter, the perfect setting for this song about loneliness, heartbreak, and realizing too late what you've been given and what you've lost," (all about that) Bass told us. "Director Brian May did an incredible job of turning what was essentially a solo live performance into a work of art by placing candles and various lights around the apartment. We opened a bottle of whiskey, set the cameras rolling, and played for hours. It was a blast. Everything else you see in the video-books and plants and things-are the usual cast of characters that help me stave off the winter blues in NYC. You can tell from my extra scruff and cabin sweater how deep we were in that winter-it seemed like it was never going to end. Good thing there's always music."
Sounds like an amazing experience and the result is pretty amazing, too.
Jeremy Bass has had quite a life. Originally a classical guitarist trained in the academies of Siena, Italy, and in the flamenco bars of Sevilla, Spain, as well as a widely published poet and critic, Jeremy Bass first drew attention in both his home cities as a dynamic bandleader and musical director of the OBIE awarded-winning, nationally touring variety show The Secret City.
Tenant was recorded over the course of several years between engagements in poetry and musical direction at some of the premier institutions on the East and West Coasts (Bread Loaf and Sewanee Writers' Conferences, New Dramatists in NYC and the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles). The album draws on Jeremy's classical background, his love of traditional Americana music, and the soul and power-driven rock 'n' roll he does so well.
