How about a Monday morning kiss?
ARTISTdirect has teamed up with Okapi Sun to premiere the video for "Johnny Kiss" from Techno Prisoners, out via Phaedra Records on April 29. You can also grab the single for free by visiting soundcloud.com.
Regular readers know what that means!
Okapi Sun are named for the rare African mammal with traits of both the zebra and giraffe. Now that's a visual, right? Dallas (vocals, synth, bass, drums) and Leo (vocals, synth, guitar, drums) met in a Berlin nightclub and later aligned in Southern California to explore their tribal dance-electronic pop sound.
Their forthcoming album, Techno Prisoners, was recorded in Los Angeles' Silverlake neighborhood.
"At the time 'Johnny Kiss' was written, Leo and I are were both working at a job where we didn't feel like we were thriving at our fullest potential," Okapi Sun's Dallas told us. "'Johnny' represents each of us working jobs because we have to, but not doing what we truly love, or what's right for us. We're trying to tell ourselves and others to walk away from whatever is holding us back in life and to do what we really want. It doesn't matter how successful you are, it just matters that you try."
"The video came out of the thought of us being our own voice in our head telling ourselves to get up, walk away from whatever is holding us back and pursue our dreams," Leo offered. "'Johnny' is just a name for anyone out there. The video is shot very simple just showing our bare faces without any distraction to represent our inner voice, our intuition and our dreams. It is edited with mirror effects to show that sometimes we have more than one dream in our life and that there are different options - it's not just one sided."
With all that detail in mind, enjoy the video.
