ARTISTdirect has teamed up with The Backyard Committee, a cross-genre musical collective that mixes Americana, folk and blues, to premiere their music video for "Festival," which is the title track for their recently released full-length.
The Backyard Committee demonstrate a talent for improvisation while maintaining structure and melodic direction.
"'Festival' is a song that was inspired by annual visits to the Gathering of the Vibes fest in my hometown of Bridgeport, Connecticut. It's four days of music with camping, and it pays tribute to the Grateful Dead. When you're there, you become totally immersed in this crazy and warm little isolated universe. It can get pretty wild. The song kind of approximates the melancholy feeling you get on the last day of Vibes, a mixture of exhaustion, satisfaction and regret at having to return to the real world. For the video, we asked our hooper friend Courtney Jeanne Roy to do her thing, alone in the backyard. Normally we see her at shows, hooping with the dancing mass of the crowd, but the video reflects what it's like at the end of the day, when it's just about time to pack it in," the band's Mike Sembos told us.
With all that in mind, watch the video and enjoy. BTW, we totally "get" that feeling of being on your own musical island at a festival and facing the reality of returning to real life.
