Joshua Tillman's new record, aka Father John Misty's new album, Pure Comedy, is due out April 7th, but that hasn't stopped the singer-songwriter from debuting three new tracks over the weekend.
Misty has formerly worked with Beyonce and Lady Gaga on tracks, and, on Sunday, he poked fun at the pop radio sphere by releasing "Generic Pop Song #3", "Generic Pop Song #9", and "Generic Pop Song #16". The songs are filled with those traditional "ohs" and "millennial whoops" that dominate pop music. The tracks take on the familiar territory of love, faith, and life.
Misty also returned to Twitter. When asked by a fan about his reaction to the new Fleet Foxes song, he remarked it, "made me cry honest to god". He was also asked about Lana Del Rey — whose "Freak" music video he appeared in — and he replied that she is "one in a mill, she's dusted everybody." He also answered questions on Beyonce, Kanye, Ariana Grande, and admitted he's never listened to The Smiths.
In the most interesting of Tweets, Misty was asked about a Chipotle commercial he turned down and condemned. He was asked, "do you ever wish you'd taken the burrito money?" To which he responded, "maybe i did/maybe me publicly disparaging chipotle was all part of the roll out."
Personally we hope he did take the burrito money — and if he feels guilty about keeping it, he can feel free to send it our way. Though, in the meantime a new FJM album will suffice, thank you very much.
