Melbourne, Australia five-piece The Janoskians stand on the verge of becoming the biggest thing in the world. The quintet—Beau Brooks, Jai Brooks, Luke Brooks, Daniel Sahyounie, and James Yammouni—literally took over YouTube with their hilarious video antics, garnering gazillions of views in the process. They made “social disturbance” and making people uncomfortable tangible art forms, and they’re painting their Mona Lisa of mayhem every time they hit the studio. With an insanely massive fan base, The Janoskians cause pandemonium wherever they go, and they’ve got a live show that’s unlike anything else on the road, blending comedy and music. However, it’s their tunes that really make them stand out.
Last month, the boys released their Would U Love Me EP on Republic Records, and it boasted the punk ska stamina of “Real Girls Eat Cake” as well as the blink-182-style bop of the title track and “Would U Love Me.” However, “Friend Zone” feels like the one. The track just impacted last week, and it flaunts everything amazing about the group. The lyrics are as clever as they are catchy with lines such as “She’s a ten, but I don’t want to be her friend” and “When we get close to the end zone, you put me back in the friend zone!” It’s crazy that nobody’s written a song about the much-hated “Friend Zone,” and now The Janoskians beat everybody to the punch, proving that their ahead of the curve again. The coolest thing about the track is the stadium-size refrain separated by hilarious bridges making fun of lame dude names. The production stands out as thick and impenetrable, and this one’s meant to be a massive sing-a-long with real heart.
Get ready because The Janoskians are going to be packing arenas worldwide everywhere soon. They’re so good they make the “Friend Zone” fun.
