Stone Temple Pilots are going to be tearing up venues this Spring on their headline tour. One thing that doesn’t get enough shine is just how heavy some of STP’s songs are. Dean DeLeo, Robert DeLeo, and Eric Kretz play some of the biggest, ballsiest, and most badass rock ‘n’ roll in history. That always comes across when they’re on stage too—always without fail. Chester Bennington also brings his own heavy heart to it!
So, ARTISTdirect.com editor in chief Rick Florino counts down the ten heaviest Stone Temple Pilots songs in this exclusive feature.
The Ten Heaviest Stone Temple Pilots Anthems
10. ”Black Heart”
The perfect example of the group’s airtight chemistry with Chester as this one opens up and bleeds a new kind of blood, while maintaining that timeless core, pun definitely intended.
9. ”Out of Time”
A rip-roaring rager from the High Rise EP, “Out of Time” blasts out of the gate with Core-style energy ignited by Chester’s raw, ragged, and rare charisma. He sounds downright impressive on the hook especially when bolstered by Dean and Robert’s guitar-and-bass tandem and that arena-filling percussion courtesy of Eric.
The psychedelic hum of Purple’s intro salvo is as towering as it is tough. It practically steamrolls everything in its path as soon as everything locks in.
