Sweeping the ceremony at the Snoop Dogg hosted 2015 BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, 24-year-old New Jersey rapper Fetty Wap raked in three awards: "Who Blew Up Award," for his highly-acclaimed self-titled debut album; "Sweet 16: Best Featured Verse" for his track with Drake, "My Way (Remix)" (Fetty Wap f. Drake); and "Track Of The Year" for the first single on the album, "Trap Queen," (which apparently even some grandparents like to get high to - see the skit below).
It's been a year of big wins for the young rapper, who also last night was nominated for two 2015 American Music Awards (airing next month): New Artist of the Year and Favorite Artist – Rap/Hip Hop, and was also dubbed MTV Video Music Awards' "Artist to Watch" earlier this year. (All this after singles "Trap Queen" went triple Platinum, "679" (feat. Monty) went platinum, and "My Way" (feat. Monty) reached Gold). He was even presented with the key to his hometown of Paterson, New Jersey, at a free show at his alma mater East Side High (apparently, the real-life school portrayed in the film Lean On Me).
"I didn't really think I would be an artist. Last year, I didn't have an address," he says. "I just want fans to enjoy the record. It's me. Personally, I'm most excited to be able to provide for my children. They won't have to experience the same struggles I did as a kid, God willing. They're my biggest inspiration, and I do this for them."
