Fiona Apple Talks Music, Dating + More in NY Mag Feature

That mysterious moppet (we mean that lovingly) Fiona Apple teamed up with NYMag's Dan Lee for an interview. The two spent time together texting, drinking, smoking and staying up late having long conversations. They got hot and heavy, but not that way!
Apple opens up about her new album, her thoughts on fame, her troubled past, and her solitude. Some interesting highlights and anecdotes from the story are as follows:
On her new album: Apple describes working on the song "Hot Knife" with Charley Drayton as "the most intimate moment of our lives together." When her ex-boyfriend asked her about the new album, Apple told him she felt "really, really happy, I felt like I can die now, I've done what I want, this is me." Deep and heavy stuff, right?
On dating: "She said she'd dated a fat man specifically to see what that would feel like. She'd briefly married a French photographer several years ago, for complicated reasons. She sought out Jonathan Ames after a friend kept talking about him…She is currently single. She'd thought a lot, she said, about this. In 'Left Alone,' she is direct: "How can I ask anyone to love me / When all I do is beg to be left alone?"
On befriending each other, Dan Lee writes: "There is no one she keeps in touch with every day. She'd said when we first met that she sometimes thinks of herself as the tramp, in Lady & the Tramp; that her mother had suggested "Fiona Lone" when they were brainstorming stage names. She'd told me, "You're my friend, and it's better for me to think of it that way…. Not long after, she'd insisted that she'd come to believe this. Something important had happened to her the morning we met."
