There's no debate. Black Veil Brides are ready for arenas.
Their self-titled fourth full-length album [iTunes link] represents the kind of dramatic shift that Metallica posited on The Black Album. Given the evolution into a ballsier, bigger, and more bombastic sound, it's no surprise that Bob Rock helmed this affair. At the same time, it always felt as if the Black Veil Brides train was steamrolling to this destination, and that's the most wonderful thing about the album. The band fulfills the promise and potential to become a bona fide arena act here. This is the one you've all been waiting for.
Songs like "Heart of Fire" and "Faithless" tout massive hooks bolstered by thick drums and robust guitars. The riffs sear and scorch, while Andy Biersack's vocals transfix at every turn. Meanwhile, "Drag Me To The Grave" couples cemetery punk spite a la The Misfits with stadium finesse. Everything builds into a bruising, brash, and brilliant dénouement during "Crown Of Thorns". Throughout "Walk Away" and "Goodbye Agony", Biersack's delivery simply slays, seeing him reach undeniable heights.
Ultimately, Black Veil Brides prove to be that arena-size act that rock 'n' roll has yearned after. This is their Black album.
