Oscar and Grammy winner returns with an R&B epic worthy of the big screen.
Jamie Foxx goes big on his fifth full-length album, Hollywood: A Story of a Dozen Roses [JB Entertainment/RCA Records]—out Monday May 18. The Oscar and Grammy Award winner knows how to tell a story in league with R&B's greatest, and that's precisely what he does with the album's 15 tracks. He enlisted the production heavyweights like Boi-1da and DJ Mustard, but we even get to hear his talent behind the board during the fantastic "In Love by Now" and "Jumping Out the Window." There's a smooth charisma transferred from his instantly recognizable vocals into the actual music that's indicative of his one of a kind presence. This is entirely his vision, and that's what makes it so captivating from the moment it begins. "You changed me baby," he croons on single "You Changed Me" featuring Chris Brown. That element of change often pops up within the lyrics, following a journey throughout the record as a love story, in the truest sense of the phrase unfolds. "Tease" sees he and Pharrell outline dating with coy cleverness and a big bombastic refrain. Foxx pushes Pharrell to deliver more, and it yields one of many unique and undeniable gems on the record, especially highlighting the singer's flavorful near theatrical delivery.
He taps Kid Ink for the unshakable "Baby's In Love," which is as soulful as it is sweet, especially when juxtaposed with one of Ink's most potent guest spots yet.
