"I'm still working on my masterpiece," sings Jessie J on "Masterpiece" midway through her stunning new album, Sweet Talker. She may not actually have to work much more because Sweet Talker stands out as a masterpiece in its own right.

It's not easy to separate yourself from the pack, while creating something that's undeniably universal. That's what Jessie J has done on Sweet Talker. As a whole, the album doesn't reflect the current pop zeitgeist so much as reinvent it altogether in her image.

Take the single "Burnin' Up". It's almost theatrical in terms of its swing and swagger. The percussion feels incendiary especially when coupled with Jessie J's instantly recognizable delivery. She's equal parts attitude and soul on that hook, and her punch feels even more potent when coupled with one 2 Chainz's best guest spots to date. Move "Dark Horse", pop has a new premier diva-rapper collaboration.

Then, there's the ubiquitous "Bang Bang", which beyond its marquee alone with Ariana Grande and Nicki Minaj, remains an utter smash in terms of energy and infectiousness.

She made the perfect decisions when it came to collaborators too. De La Soul takes "Seal Me With a Kiss" back to the nineties with a smirk, and Lindsey Stirling adds bright bombast to "Loud".

Piano punctuates the emotional title track where her voice truly gets the spotlight, and "Your Loss I'm Found" comes off as downright cinematic. In the end, this isn't just a masterpiece for Jessie J, but it's also a masterpiece for modern pop, paving a new road altogether in the process.
