See our first response to the highly anticipated self-titled debut from the new group featuring Adam Gontier and Mike Mushok.
Saint Asonia make the kind of hard rock that's been missing for quite some time now. In doing so, they're the first new band to actually up the ante for the genre in recent memory. As evinced by the summer success of Breaking Benjamin and continued accolades of Five Finger Death Punch, hard rock's influence won't diminish under the gears of whatever typical critics say about rock 'n' roll dying in the 21st century or the industry's changing tides to streaming. The truth is, Saint Asonia crafted a powerful, poignant, and passionate record that deserves your attention from top-to-bottom—however you consume music. Also, they made a decidedly modern move, debuting at a festival, in their case the sold out 2015 Rock on the Range. They know what's up, but they most importantly built an incredible, infectious, and incisive body of work.
Now, Saint Asonia boasts the creative union of former Three Days Grace singer Adam Gontier and Staind guitarist Mike Mushok at its core. That's where it started with drummer Rich Beddoe [ex-Finger Eleven] and bassist/background vocalist Corey Lowery [Dark New Day, Stereomud, Eye Empire] rounding out the lineup and Johnny K [Disturbed, Megadeth] producing. However, the music bursts out of the gate with an identity of its own.
