KB makes a straight masterpiece with his second full-length album Tomorrow We Live out April 21, 2015 via Reach Records. The St. Petersburg MC takes faith-based rap to new heights delivering an inspiring, inimitable, and infectious body of work for round two. 2012’s Weight & Glory announced KB’s arrival as one of Reach’s brightest additions, fitting comfortably alongside label founder Lecrae and heavy hitters such as Trip Lee. Then, he went and won a Dove Award on top of it, firmly entrenching himself as the label’s latest star. His rise has been fast, but it’s also been deserved as he can rhyme with the best of them. His talent and mic prowess just speaks for itself.
At the same time, KB possesses a style of his own. He can spit quick, but he can also reel it back and let each syllable of the cadence land a knockout punch. Moreover, he knows how to cook up a cook. The opener “Rich Forever” illuminates that as he announces, “We’ll be rich forever,” over luminous, light, and lush production. The single “Sideways” draws the spotlight right to him as he and Lecrae go bar-for-bar in a brilliant trade-off. He declares, “I ain’t trying to build CHH; I’m in my own lane.” That’s quite clear as the record unfolds during the shimmering finale “Crown & Thorns (Oceans).” The harmony in the middle feels particularly chilling as it captures attention instantly before fluttering off to the heavens.
KB also smartly weaves in the message. His verses are clear and diligently constructed. Moreover, he’s consistent throughout, building an entire journey over the course of thirteen tracks that captivates with an enigmatic eloquence of its own.
With Lecrae scoring a number one album on Anomaly and Trip Lee turning out his own classic in the form of Rise, the Reach Records family continues to serve as a bastion of quality hip-hop beyond genre boundaries or classifications. KB continues that tradition on his own terms creating something with massive crossover potential that’s still just as genuine. Welcome to his first classic.
