Five Finger Death Punch are armed and ready to bring out the big guns with a classic record this year. We’re going to say it now! It just feels like there’s something very pivotal brewing for the Las Vegas heavy metal juggernaut for many reasons. The crew of Ivan Moody, Zoltan Bathory, Jeremy Spencer, Jason Hook, and Chris Kael have been barreling towards their new opus at light speed. Following a world tour for the chart-topping The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Vol. 1 and The Wrong Side of Heaven and the Righteous Side of Hell, Vol. 2, the boys immediately buckled down to begin their next chapter. It just seems like “Death Punch Season” is about to kick off with a giant bang—would you have it any other way?
The last two albums illuminated their scope, spanning from “Lift You Up” with Rob Halford to “Mama Said Knock You Out” with Tech N9ne. They managed to cover new territory, bringing guests into the fold and then getting vulnerable on “Battle Born” between setting the world on fire with “Here To Die.” It showed their expanse. Each record has spoken to a different side of the group, upping their game as they evolved. The Way of the Fist tempered European metallic ferocity with decidedly unrestrained hardcore energy, while their sophomore classic War Is the Answer focused their assault into a steamrolling barrage of riffs and melodies. American Capitalist weaved together an unforgettable thematic element as it expanded their trademarks. Then, the Wrong Side of Heaven illuminated everything they were capable of and more.
Now is their moment. They’re this generation’s equivalent of Pantera—a fierce collective who take metal and make it move audiences. They’ve gone against the grain and done things on their own terms, and the fans have responded selling out arenas and giving them gold record after gold record in addition to numerous radio hits. The audiences that matter continue to laud them, and that’s what makes a timeless group. That’s why they’ve solidified their place in heavy music’s pantheon forever. You don’t see this stated often, but it should be said more. These guys are keeping hard rock alive, on the charts, and the airwaves. They’re doing their part and invigorating the genre every time they roll up with something new.
