Several sources are reporting that singer/songwriter/activist Pete Seeger died Monday, January 27 at the age of 94.
Seeger was called the "Father of American Folk Music" by Bruce Springsteen and it was Seeger who popularized songs like "This Land Is Your Land" and "We Shall Overcome." He also wrote "If I Had a Hammer" and "Turn, Turn, Turn."
He was recently honored with the Woody Guthrie Prize and was known for his social activism throughout his life.
The New York Times reported that Seeger's death was confirmed by his grandson, Kitama Cahill Jackson.
Seeger passed away from natural causes at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
