Last night in San Francisco the Foo Fighters Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins took part in the Acoustic-4-A-Cure benefit concert, an event held to raise money for UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital.
During the set Dave Grohl debuted "The Sky Is A Neighborhood", a new song that the artist explained had never been shared with anyone before, saying "I figured on the way up here, I thought, 'F*** it, let's play a new song, man,'" You can watch a fan-shot video of the performance. It's has all the trademark elements of a Foo Fighters song — Grohl's gravelly voice, some power strums and plenty of opportunities for fans to sing along and punch the sky.
Foo Fighters' last release was the Saint Cecilia EP in 2015 — a release that was revisited as the focus of our recent Free Music Download.
While Grohl has also recently been promoting his mother Virginia's new book, this new track indicates that the hopes of a new album may well be rewarded, and the band are believed to be spending most of this year in the studio.
Last year, Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins gave an interview to the NME in which he discussed the likelihood of a new album release; "We will make a new record at some point. We won't really be ready until Dave's ready to go. It's on the books, so we'll definitely be playing. We never really know, we just wait for a text from Dave saying 'hey, let's go down to the studio."
The band is set to headline this year's Glastonbury, a highly anticipated event in this year's musical calendar — since they will be sharing duties with Radiohead, who will be performing a special headline show to celebrate twenty years since the release of OK Computer, and their seminal performance at the English festival.
