    • Louis Armstrong - Undated and unlocated picture of American Louis Armstrong, the jazz trumpeter whose melodic inventiveness established the central role of the improvising soloist in jazz. Armstrong always said he was born 04 July 1900 in New Orleans although nobody knows the exact date. He was also a popular singer (hit recording include 'Mack the Knife', 'Hello Dolly!') and entertainer in such films as 'Pennies from Heaven' (1936), 'Cabin in the Sky' (1943), and 'High Society' (1956), but he remained primarily a jazz musician, touring the world with his New Orleans-style sextet. Armstrong died 06 July 1971.

Until the 1960s, public murals in Los Angeles were few and far between, isolated instances of commemoration or appreciation. Los Angeles is one of the world's mural capitals. Murals that serve as significant area landmarks have been created by both famous and anonymous artists.

The trumpet was manufactured in Paris, plated in gold and embossed on the bell with the musician's nickname and name, 'Satchmo Louis Armstrong'. The house, the long-time home of Armstrong and his wife and a National Historic Landmark, has undergone extensive renovations and will open to the public for tours on 16 October.

Forest Whitaker will direct and star in the Louis Armstrong biopic What a Wonderful World. The Paris-based company Legende will produce the film.

Oscar Cohen, the executor of Armstrong's estate, will co-author the original script with Ron Bass. This is the first film that has been approved and authorized by the late musician's estate. The film will explore Armstrong's poor upbringing in New Orleans and will follow his career as a prominent trumpet virtuoso and improvisational singer. The project will begin shooting in Louisiana next summer. Cohen, who also worked as Armstrong's road manager, is allowing the filmmakers exclusive access to his personal accounts, letters, and other materials in the archives.
