Former E.T. Star Henry Thomas Returns to Big Screen

Former child star Henry Thomas is best known for playing Elliott, the human friend of the title character in E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. The actor returns to a big screen role after an absence from meaty parts in Dear John for Screen Gems.

The film is based on a Nicholas Sparks novel and features Channing Tatum as a soldier on leave who eventually re-enlists after September 11, despite falling in love with a local girl, played by Amanda Seyfried. Thomas will play the older gent that Seyfried’s character falls in love with while Tatum’s solider is away.

Richard Jenkins has also been named to the cast, playing the soldier's father. Jenkins recently joined the production, which is currently filming in South Carolina.
