Kiefer Sutherland Videos
Time has run out for Fox's 24. After eight minute-ticking seasons, the Kiefer Sutherland-as-Jack-Bauer series is being canceled, despite having once been a cultural watershed. The final, real-time episode will air in May. Hollywood insiders claim that increased budgets, declining ratings and creative fatigue are behind the once-popular and always innovative show's demise.
But diehards can rejoice, as this is certainly not the end of Jack Bauer. Sudio 20th TV is developing a film based on the series, which will see Bauer traipsing around Europe. Executive producer Howard Gordon also said other possibilities are being explored. While a weekly series with a pressure-cooker, specific time narrative such as 24 is mentally and financially taxing for writers and producers, a film could be a profitable and positive endeavor as it's a one-shot deal. Gordon did promise a strong finish for the show, but then again, what producer wouldn't?
Will you miss 24 and Lost once they are off the air? Or is it time for each series to go gently into that good night?
