Freddie Gibbs has been formally charged for sexual assault in Austria. Over two months ago, the rapper was arrested in France for a rape he allegedly committed last year. Just over a week ago, Gibbs was extradited from France to Austria. He was adamantly "fighting the extradition request" at that time, calling them "nothing more than trumped up charges."
Reuters reports ""He is alleged to have administered knock-out drops to a woman and then have abused her sexually while she was in a defenseless state," a spokesman for Vienna's criminal court said." Gibbs was charged with "sexual abuse of a defenseless or psychologically impaired person," the outlet added.
Thomas Kralik, Gibbs' Austria-based attorney, stated "He strenuously denies [the accusations]." Gibbs' U.S. lawyer, Theodore Simon, said in an email statement to Rolling Stone, "While Freddie Gibbs was charged with an offense today, it remains only an allegation, and it does not in any way change the actual facts that Freddie Gibbs is 100 percent innocent ... As the investigation and process continues, Mr. Gibbs remains hopeful that a thorough, searching and complete investigation will reveal the actual facts, including the absence of any scientific, physical, or credible evidence implicating him, thereby paving the way for his exoneration and return to his family and one-year-old child."
Gibbs last released Shadow of a Doubt in 2015. He spent much of 2015 on a world tour after the successful release of his previous album, Piñata.
