ARTISTdirect.com has proudly partnered with our friends in the band Apollo Run for this free download of the shapeshifting, genre-bending rocker "Bending the Light." Free music is good. Free, good music is better. And trust us. This isn't good; it's better than good.
"Bending the Light" is a sweeping, smooth and sexy rock sound that runs through your ears like silk, complimented by heartbeat-like percussion and pretty, dreamy vocals. It's also synthy, but lush with texture. It's most definitely a headphones song, so grab yourself a pair and unearth the layers. The song brings the heat, which is something a lot of synth-heavy songs often lack, thanks to sterilized overproduction.
"'Bending the Light' was the last song to come together on Here Be Dragons, Vol. III," said singer John McGrew. "I originally wrote the tune using drum machines and synths for a production of the play Songs for a Future Generation up in Boston. We knew we wanted the song on the record, but we had no idea how we were going to play it. On the final day of tracking drums and bass in the studio, we had the chords and some lyrics...but that's it. We had no choice but to start laying down rough ideas. The result was this three-minute futuristic synth groove about star-crossed lovers."
Vol. III is out Sept. 25.
