Garbage were always about ten steps ahead of the pack.
With their brand new single "Blood For Poppies", they still are. The first taste of their highly anticipated fifth album, Not Your Kind of People [Available May 15, 2012], is devilishly delectable rock of the highest order.
A sexy wobble weaves through a big Steve Marker riff and airtight drumming from Butch Vig. Singer Shirley Manson remains rock's ultimate vixen. Her voice seamlessly bounces on the verse before spiraling into a haunting hum. She nods to David Bowie with a femme fatale savoir faire that's undeniably hypnotic. As everything builds, the track's hook is one of the band's most infectious ever.
"They know I'm here just out of sight," affirms Manson. She's always been here. You can feel her influence in everyone from your favorite modern pop stars to your favorite rock stars. Manson's got a timeless classiness and equally timeless voice that simply shimmers here alongside the keyboards, guitars, drums, and bass.
These "Poppies" blossom into a new a classic—spattered in crimson and ahead of their peers of course.
