George Michael has decided not to treat or cover up the scar from his tracheotomy last year because it reminds him that he is lucky to be alive after his near-deadly bout with pneumonia.

In case you didn't recall, Michael was hospitalized in Vienna, Austria at the end of November. He spent four weeks hospitalized and underwent a tracheotomy, which is a neck incision necessary to help breathing. He thought about disguising the scar, but decided against it, saying, "I don't think it changes you as a person. I have a tracheotomy scar… and it really bothered me for a while. I was thinking well maybe I should get something done about it. I know you can have scar treatment. But then I thought when I was looking in the mirror a couple of weeks ago that it does actually remind me every time I look at it that I’m lucky to be alive so I’ve decided to keep it."

We think that's a good decision, George. Scars are what make you interesting and who you are!
