The Hollywood Reporter claims that Glee co-creator Ryan Murphy is taking back his comments about Kings of Leon, who refused to allow the show to license their music, prompting Murphy to pitch a fit in the press. Murphy told the trade that he now says he wishes he'd expressed himself differently. Murphy essentially spewed a "Fuck you" to the band and called KOL's Followill brothers "self-centered assholes" for turning the show down. Rawr.
"I didn't speak with as much clarity as I would have liked," Murphy told the paper on the set of the series. "Who am I to say 'Fuck you?' That's not what I meant. I completely understand when artists don't want a show or another artist to interpret their songs. In fact, I respect it. It's their personal work and I'd feel the same way. We get turned down all the time and I don't fight it or even go back after a rejection."
Murphy has had the proverbial moment of clarity.
Murphy also revealed that singer Björk rejected a request to use one of her songs on Glee, but for a specific reason. "She read the scene and didn't think it was the right fit for her song," he said. "I told her, 'That's completely cool,' and she said to come back to her down the road. We deal with that every day."
Maybe Murphy and the Followill brothers can make nice now.
What do you think Ryan Murphy's clarification of his comments about Kings of Leon?
