The Associated Press reports that a nationwide contest to win a part on the number one show on TV, the musical comedy watershed known as Glee, is being transformed into a reality show of its own next year.
The Glee Project will be a multi-episode series broadcast on the female-friendly cable network Oxygen in June 2011. The arc is that the show will follow some of the tens of thousands of young Americans who already have sought a guest-starring role on the third season of the Emmy-winning show on Fox television.
Seriously, lots of people tried out of the show -- 34,000 applications were submitted through MySpace earlier this year when Oxygen announced open casting calls in December and January in Chicago and Dallas. Now, Oxygen is looking for singers, actors and dancers over age 18 who could convincingly play the role of a high school teenager. Yeah, because that is so easy to pull off!
The format of The Glee Project is under construction and currently being sorted out. In essence, though, performers will compete over the course of several weeks for a guest spot on the show.
More details of the casting calls and auditions songs can be found here.
