French metal band Gojira got up close and extremely personal with ARTISTdirect.com in this exclusive video interview with guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier. In the clip, Duplantier says that the band shows up to the studio with complete songs that they are ready to record; they don't go in with a bunch of riffs that they expect a producer to help them fashion into a song. Gojira show up to the studio with a clear-cut vision of what they want to achieve and where they want to go with their sound.
Duplantier also talks about the band's upcoming EP dedicated to Sea Shepherd, which he says is "heavy, fast and in your face"— and I am certainly all for! He also explained that the band also left room for emotion in their songs and that they hope that a wider cross-section of fans will embrace their new music!
Duplantier also speaks about being into classical music and not listening too much metal, either. He espouses his love for Metallica, which is a pretty large influence for most metal bands. He cops to being a Gojira fan and honestly, I can't blame him! Gojira are one of the most thrilling metal bands around.
Duplantier also revealed the band is working on a DVD that will include live footage and demonstrate a side of the band that fans have not yet seen. There will be clips culled from backstage antics from when the band toured with the almighty, aforementioned Metallica.
