Earlier this week we heard that Gorillaz licensed a whole bunch of new music — which offered an insight into the shape of the upcoming album, and the guest artists who'd be featured on the project. They'd previously released "Hallelujah Money", a politically charged track with Benjamin Clementine, to mark the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump. In the weeks since that historic day we've heard that the band will also be hosting their own "Demon Dayz Festival" at a theme park in the UK.
Hype, teasers, and stylish use of social media accounts have been been order of the day, but now, finally we can hear a substantial chunk of tunes from the new album.
Later today, from 3 p.m. Eastern, Gorillaz founder, Damon Albarn, will appear on MistaJam's BBC Radio 1 show "to premiere brand new music from Gorillaz." It is suggested that he'll be sharing at least two new songs.
Elsewhere in the digital sphere, four new Gorillaz tracks have appeared on Tidal. They are called "Ascension" [ft. Vince Staples], "We Got the Power" [ft. Jehnny Beth of Savages], "Saturnz Barnz" [ft. Popcaan], and "Andromeda" [ft. D.R.A.M.]. The tracks are not yet available to stream — but we're clearly getting closer to launch — perhaps tying in with Albarn's 49th birthday, which he celebrates today. Happy birthday, Mr. Albarn.
In other Gorillaz news, Demon Days is getting a vinyl reissue for Vinyl Me, Please‘s April Record of the Month. Seems like there's a great deal to dance about for fans of the virtual band with real influence.
