Celebrating it's 40th anniversary this year, the festival showcases some of the world's best artists from all areas of music and performance. This year's headline acts on the main stage include Muse, Gorillaz and Stevie Wonder. U2 were set to also perform until lead singer Bono had to pull out due to needing emergency spinal surgery.

Gorillaz, featuring Damon Albarn of Blur fame, are stepping into the slot vacated by U2 at this year's Glastonbury Festival in the UK. The performance will mark the band's sole UK festival appearance this summer. The animated act will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Friday, June 25. U2, who had written a brand new song for the fest and were marking their first appearance, pulled out after Bono hurt his back during tour rehearsals. The injury required emergency surgery and U2's tour was then cancelled.

"This is going to be Gorillaz' only UK festival appearance, and it will be a massive audio-visual spectacle which will really ignite the Pyramid on the Friday night, with Muse then Stevie Wonder to follow," said festival organizer Michael Eavis in a statement. Muse and Stevie Wonder? One on stage? That might be worth the cost of a plane ticket right there.

Are Gorillaz a suitable fill in for U2?
