Daryl Hall and John Oates will not be playing Phoenix next month after an Arizona Diamondbacks baseball game, The Associated Press is reporting. The duo announced Monday, via their manager, that they will nix their scheduled July 2 concert because of their personal stance against Arizona's tough immigration policy, which allows authorities to demand to see papers from those they suspect of being in the country illegally.
H&O also said that they stand in solidarity with the rest of the music community that is boycotting Arizona at this time. While some in the region may feel the law is justified, the new policy is certainly weakening the local entertainment economy. H&O made it clear that their choice to bail on playing in Arizona has nothing to do with the management of the Diamondbacks. The team's president and chief executive Derrick Hall –no relation to Daryl- said the understand the decision.
What is your stance on the Arizona immigration law? If you live in AZ, how do you feel about artists cancelling gigs over it?
