Hank Williams, Jr.'s iconic "Monday Night Football" theme song, where he asks, "Are you ready for some football?," will no longer run before ESPN's weekly game. The song was yanked on Monday night before the evening's broadcast, in light of his comments during an appearance on Fox & Friends that afternoon, where he compared President Obama to Hitler!
Williams' "All My Rowdy Friends Are Here on Monday Night" had served on as the theme of "Monday Night Football" on ESPN and ABC since 1991. So a long partnership is ending.
ESPN issued this statement: "We have decided to part ways with Hank Williams, Jr. We appreciate his contributions over the past years. The success of 'Monday Night Football' has always been about the games and that will continue."
On his website, Hank posted a bit of an inflammatory message, writing: "After reading hundreds of e-mails, I have made MY decision. By pulling my opening Oct 3rd, You (ESPN) stepped on the Toes of The First Amendment Freedom of Speech, so therefore Me, My Song, and All My Rowdy Friends are OUT OF HERE. It's been a great run."
What intro should replace Hank Williams Jr.'s song? Team ESPN or Team Hank?
