Washington, D.C. officials christened last Friday as "Hayden Panettiere Day!? What the hell did they do that for? Well, they do so in recognition of the actress' efforts to make the American capital into a state! Hayden Panettiere, huh? What's she been in lately, besides Lifetime TV movies? We guess she is busy lobbying for D.C. instead of acting. And hey, she has her own damn day. Good for her!
The beautiful blonde, best known for her role on the now-canceled Heroes, is campaigning to make the District of Columbia an American state so that residents can gain full representation in Congress!
D.C. Mayor Vincent C. Gray honored the actress with her own day in D.C. to thank her for her continued support of the campaign. He praised her for raising "awareness among a new generation of our unique and unjust plight".
About the honor, Panettiere said, "It doesn't get much cooler than that. It's a huge honor. We'll continue just chipping away at the problem and trying to fix it. It seems like such (an) unfathomable fact that, you know, it's taxation without representation in D.C., and that there's no democracy in our democracy, at the heart of it." You are right on all counts, Hayden, from the coolness of having your own day to the democracy implicit in D.C. obtaining statehood.
What do you think of the Washington, D.C. campaign for statehood? I say "ALL IN!"
