Alicia Keys has shared a new single called "In Common." The song comes ahead of her upcoming performance on Saturday Night Live as this weekend's musical guest. Keys posted a snapchat teaser-announcement for new music and a live performance in her home city of New York a couple of weeks ago. According to Pitchfork, Alicia Keys new album is expected to be released later this year. Her last album was 2012's Girl on Fire.
The new song matches a jittery house-shuffle to Alicia Keys smooth, airy voice. The song finds Keys musing on the chorus, the playful caveat, "who wants to love somebody like me / if you can love somebody like me you must be messed up to" with a rueful grin. She can't help but voice her barely suppressed exuberance every time she returns to the titular refrain, "we've got way too much in common!"
"In Common" is a welcome return from Alicia Keys, as well as a good sign that her long-coming new album is indeed on the way to being released later this year. Back in 2014 Billboard interviewed Keys about the recording of Girl on Fire's follow-up LP. In the interview, Keys shares, "What I know for a fact is it's the best music I've ever done in my life yet and it's really exciting to be able to have this kind of growth, this type of opportunity," she said. "The music's actually pretty much done already and so you'll be hearing some of it soon."
Recently, Alicia Keys met with President Obama (along with Chance the Rapper, Nicki Minaj, J. Cole and more) to discuss the "My Brother's Keeper" initiative. Look for our article on the recent meeting of entertainment and political powers after the jump.
Alicia Keys currently does not have any tour dates.
